Hey there!
I'M JOHN.
I like dogs.
Alot.
As the owner of Top Dog Training, Kentucky my life revolves around them... my clients and my own.
In the 90's I started on my dog "hobby"... a couple decades later I convinced my wife that I should quit my corporate job to turn my dog "hobby" in to a "career".
We set a plan in place and made it happen.
I wanted to help build better dogs... to build "top dogs".
So in 2014 I started Top Dog Training, Kentucky and am obsessed with continually learning ways to help humans and dogs.
In 2022 I started The Pro Dog Trainer Mindset where I used my experience and education in coaching and mentoring to focus on helping my colleagues navigate an unregulated industry.
I began using the same coaching skills with my pet dog clients as well. Most dog trainers focus on just the dogs because thats where their training and education ends. I was drawing on knowledge, skills and experience to reach both humans and their dogs.
So this year I began work on a new project... The Top Dog Project which combines both (professional focus on the dog AND human) and is the next evolution in building both "top dogs" and "top humans" through The W.H.O.L.E. Dog Blueprint.
The Top Dog Project is simply a way for me to use the knowledge, experience, skills and contacts I've gained to provide more information in multiple formats to both trainers and pet owners.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN DOG TRAINING IN THE LOUISVILLE AREA CLICK HERE TO GO TO TOP DOG TRAINING, KENTUCKY!My goal is for this to be a resource for both clients and colleagues.
There is a lot of noise on the internet and in the industry. In the conversations, courses and experiences I've had throughout my career as a professional dog trainer (and other careers while dogs were just a hobby) my goal has always been to cut through the noise and distill things down but at the same time still understand the complexities.
We will explore The W.H.O.L.E. Dog Blueprint and go into detail on the canine species through short discussions and courses as well as long form content to cover welfare, behavior and so much more from an objective and unbiased approach.
THE W.H.O.L.E. Dog Blueprint
WELFARE
first
Before we begin to change behavior we have to make sure the dog is prepared physically, mentally and emotionally to handle the process of learning.
HUMANE
approach
Whatever methodology or system is used to change behavior it needs to have a net overall positive (good) impact on the dog's welfare.
OBEDIENCE
foundation
The skill set we teach should be distilled down as much as possible while providing the ability for the dog to navigate the world around it.
LIFESTYLE
focus
The goal is to build "dog people" giving them the tools necessary to successfully care for the dog in their life as well as themselves.
EXPLORE
together
Adventures initiate personal growth and resilience. Going on adventure in the backyard or the backcountry together builds a bond.
"The W.H.O.L.E. Dog Blueprint is the way I've been able to make sense of the decades of knowledge, skills and abilities I've gained from all of the amazing dogs and professionals I've had the ability to learn from. Many of them will never know the impact they had on me. Anything from a short conversation or a long seminar would cause me to think about dogs and our role as their caretakers in a deeper way.
Thank you."
John
